Restoring forests with spekboom in the Eastern Cape, South Africa

In the Eastern Cape of South Africa, intensive farming has severely impacted the surrounding ecosystems and biodiversity. Over the last decades, approximately 80% of the 1.5 million ha of spekboom thicket has been degraded. To address spekboom thicket degradation, restoration programmes are being implemented more frequently within the province.
