IUCN World Conservation Congress: Reforest’Action meets international forest restoration stakeholders

From September 3rd to 11th, the last edition of the IUCN world congress took place in Marseille. This key international event gathered thousands of actors of nature conservation, ahead of the COPs. Over two days, Reforest’Action contributed to the global dialogue on the restoration of forests.

Over the recent years, forest fires have been multiplying all over the world, causing major damages for biodiversity and Humankind. According to a study published in 2016 by Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), scientists discovered - for the first time - a link between the rise of temperatures and the increase of fires frequency and intensity in the American Wild West. In 2019, the European Union's Earth observation programme Copernicus estimated that an average 11 hectares of land were burnt every second in the world..

EU Forest Strategy for 2030: a strong environmental path

The European Commission just released on Friday 16 July its new EU Forest Strategy. This Strategy supplements the Fit for 55 Package (published on 14 of July) and will contribute to achieve the EU’s target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from 55% by 2030, as set out in the European legislation on Climate. This new ambitious strategy “recognises the central and multi-functional role of forests, and the contribution of foresters and the entire forest-based value chain for achieving by 2050 a sustainable and climate-neutral economy while ensuring that all of ecosystems are restored, resilient, and adequately protected.”

UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration: understanding its challenges in three steps

The third annual Forest Month in 2021 will focus on the theme of restoring ecosystems, as Reforest’Action takes another look at the relationship between human societies and life in all its forms. How did we become disconnected from Nature down the centuries, and how has this schism not proved fatal? How can we create sustainable humanity, in harmony with natural ecosystems? Part philosophy and part ecology, reconnecting to the living is essential when thinking about tomorrow’s world.

The Global Forest Summit: an event to accelerate action for forests

A high-level international event, the Global Forest Summit will be held on March 12. Co-organized by Reforest'Action and the Open Diplomacy Institute, this virtual summit will bring together representatives of international organizations, members of governments, as well as decision-makers from the business world, community leaders and NGOs, to call for joint action in favor of forests and present concrete solutions to accelerate their protection and restoration.
